He loved Ukraine. He lived for Ukraine.
He gave his talent with the name of Ukraine to the world and died for Ukraine.

His death – this is an important testament for the coming generations, this is an example of the great force of national consciousness.“


Competition in honor of Wassyl Slipak, world-famous Ukrainian opera singer, soloist of the Paris National Opera, volunteer, participant in hostilities in eastern Ukraine, holder of the Order “For Courage” I degree, Hero of Ukraine, holder of the Order “Golden Star”.
Conducted by Lviv National Philharmonic named after Myroslav Skoryk in cooperation with Lviv Regional State Administration’s Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions and supported by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Lviv Regional State Administration, Lviv Regional Council and Wassyl Slipak Foundation.

The idea of the competition belongs to Volodymyr Syvokhip, General Director of the Lviv National Philharmonic, who on December 8, 2016, announced the possibility of holding in Lviv a competition of young vocalists in honor of Wassyl Slipak in 2017.

For the first time The Wassyl Slipak All-Ukrainian Young Vocalists Competition was held on December 15-20, 2017 in The Myroslav Skoryk Lviv National Philharmonic.

On December 15, 2017, to mark the beginning of the competition in the lobby of the Lviv Philharmonic a press conference was held, which was attended by: Volodymyr Syvohip — General Director of the Lviv National Philharmonic, the jury members — Valerii Buimister and Sofia Soloviy, Myroslava Turkalo — Director of the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Oleh Sozansky —Executive Director of the competition.

For the second time, The Wassyl Slipak Young Vocalists Competition took place on December 15-20, 2019, already in international status.

On October 29, 2019, the rector of the Petro Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine Maksym Tymoshenko addressed a letter to the President of Ukraine V. Zelensky asking for support in organizing the Competition. On November 19, 2019, the President signed an order “On providing support of the President of Ukraine for The Wassyl Slipak Young Vocalists Competition.”
